Northern Thailand Travel Experiences

Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand and is considered the capital of Northern Thailand. Chedi gilded and ornate temples abound. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the pace of life is slow to say the least. This can not be said of the markets here, but the pace is hectic. If you are looking for crafts in the region is expected to visit the famous Night Bazaar, all kinds of goods at very reasonable prices can produce displayed. If it is possible for youtake a local Northern Thai resident with you when shopping, you will get a much more satisfying price.

There is without question a two tier price structure: one for the locals and one for the visitors. All of the goods on display at the Night Bazaar will have been manufactured in the local villages around Chiang Mai. The handicraft villages such as BORSANG and BAAN TAWAI represent excellent value, on their own but, if time is a limiting factor then the Night Bazaar showcases all of the art objects in the environment.

Even in the Night Bazaar will be found an abundance of bars and restaurants where you can quench your thirst and rest your feet. All of them are inexpensive and provide entertainment, so that a Chiang Mai in northern Thailand's most attractive tourist destinations. At some distance from the city on the way to Doi Suthep, you will find the zoo of Chiang Mai. A popular day trip from Chiang Mai, situated between the forest and spectacular waterfalls. The feeding of the crocodiles is always a popular spectacle, but, at the zoo, you can all sorts of mammals, reptiles and birds seen in their natural habitats. It is tough to walk through the zoo, if you want to see everything, but they have mini-buses that you are, you can jump to get from point to point, with a small charge.

Chiang Mai offers many hotels, from budget to luxury Sheraton Chiang Mai. Something to remember is that most hotels have adaily room rate and also a monthly rate. Should you be staying more than two weeks in the city it is definitely worth ascertaing the daily rate first. Having been offered the daily rate, enquire the monthly rate. At a hotel with a daily rate of 650baht, this represents a monthly rate of 20,000baht. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that the monthly rate will be somewhere around 7-8000baht. This results in a saving of 1000-2000baht against the daily rate. Any period longer than two weeks means that no additional day in the core to be free. The only difference in service, that leaves only once or twice a week and changed the same goes for maids cleaning the rooms. A small sacrifice that I would recommend.

South of Chiang Mai, Lamphun is the home of Northern Thailand Trading Estate, jobs in many multi-national companies, the names would be instantly recognizable to most visitors. Lamphun, also has its own moat and many historic temples.Lamphun is the original capital of the ancient kingdom Haripunchai. Further south along the highway eleven o'clock Lampang, a city in the tourist draws its main temple is located. No one more than the temple near Kho Ka Hang Chat.

Their claim to fame is that it is the original home of the Emerald Buddha was. The Buddha was stolen by the first monarch and now resides in the Grand Palais in Krung Thep (Bangkok, you and I). Brands from the weapons that can visualize the timeinto the masonry around the Chedi, and how great the game is seen fighting that has taken place. The original wooden temple there today, and with great reverence by the city faithful.Another well visit is visited Chiang Rai. You have to drive north of Chiang Mai, and you are finally on the defined peak of Chiang Dao to come - another significant peak has a fabulous complex of caves underneath.

Further north, you can use the main pathand travel through mountain passes to Doi Angkhang - one of the last true wilderness in Thailand stretch before the hills of Myanmar before continuing. Another popular choice is to continue to Tha Ton, here you can raft one night to the older northern Thai city of Chiang Rai board. Much quieter and older than Chiang Mai, but well-maintained and presented.By the southern route, will leave you Lampang heading into the mountains to another beautiful town of Phayao Ngao, based on the liesFoot of the hill, which must be traversed.

I can testify from personal experience that it is traveling very intoxicating, this path of the bus. The drivers are not accepting that others can use the road. Surely someone on the line remains out of their way.You will know when you will Phayao achieved due to the large expanse of water on the left side. It is a temple on the edge of the lake, which rate embedded as one of the quietest places on this earth.Past Phayao mustthe main road swings north and eventually you give in Chiang Rai from the south. Further north, about 30 km is Mae Sai, whose claim to fame is the northernmost point in Thailand. The so-called Freedom Bridge marks the border between Thailand and Myanmar. I personally do not think the local people of Myanmar to consider it as a freedom bridge, because it firmly believes the military junta in Myanmar.

In order from northern Thailand in Myanmar, but the cross is certainly an experience not to bemissed. Directly across the bridge is a market that is a hotbed of contraband and cheap goods of all kinds.

I am a 63 year old British ex-pat living in a small village in northern Thailand, between Chiang Mai and Lampang.
My main interest is the Thai life in all its forms, but where I live, it tends to be more of a rural character as a city life.
If you ask me do I have to be very happy to try to answer them. If I do not know, I wantcertainly know someone who will.
